Default Do you think you would notice if you ripped your leg off while riding?

TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- A Japanese biker failed to notice his leg had been severed below the knee when he hit a safety barrier, and rode on for 2 km (1.2 miles), leaving a friend to pick up the missing limb.

The 54-year-old office worker was out on his motorcycle with a group of friends in the city of Hamamatsu, west of Tokyo, on Monday, when he was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and bumped into the central barrier, the Mainichi Shimbun said.

He felt excruciating pain, but did not notice that his right leg was missing until he stopped at the next junction, the paper quoted local police as saying.

The man and his leg were taken to hospital, but the limb had been crushed in the collision, the paper said.

I find that hard to believe, granted I have never had my leg torn off so I am just guessing here. Some wild stories get told every now and again.

I wonder if he only noticed because he fell over when he stoped.

I would like to think so. But I have done stupid things and felt the need to get out of there quickly to hopefully avoid attention. So maybe his feel to leave the area was so great knowing he hurt himself but not the extent and rode on. But riding a bike you would think you would notice you lost a part of your leg. I would think the not feeling the foot peg I would look down, crazy.

It would depend on "which leg"?

When I get done laughing here, I am gonna yell at ya for making light of the poor guy!!

You would't have to wonder, if the body would naturally dull the pain a bit, where it didn't hurt as bad as you would imagine it too. A few yrs ago, I sliced my finger with an exacto blade....thru the meat, and thru the muscle. It didn't hurt a bit (for about 20 minutes).

No, a guy I knew had the same thing happen! A car with the big chrome type fenders crossed over the line and "knicked" him in the leg, he rode on for a few miles and did not notice his lower leg hanging until his girl friend started screaming! He looks down, and pulls over and passed out. Really! It can be a freak thing that happens; the force of just a small knick like that took off his lower leg no ****..!!
