New -07' Dyan Low here - Coming up on 1,000 - do you go Synthetic or keep the Standard Stuff. Also thinking about trading upto the forward controls but I here its a bitch to converton the 07's. Any feedback?
I have the fxdl and I put Amsoil synthetics in at my 1000 mile and am happy with the results. The bike shifts very smoothly now. I don't know if it is syn over dino or break in, or a combination though. Before I did the 1000 I read through posts here and much discussion about the different oils and syns was focused on the transmission and the smoothness of shifting and the ability to find neutral (many reported difficulties).
Given the fact that our power plants are air cooled I like the idea of having syn over dino for the simple fact that syn is not supposed to break down as easily being subjected to hight temps.
As far as the forward controls go I left my mids on. I like being able to move between the highway pegs and the mids. This makes longer rides more comfortable. I can shift up and down using my heal and can also brake with my heal from the hiway pegs. The only thing I would really like to do is switch from pegs to boards.
You an 07 with only 1000 miles. The new 08 are out. Trade it in it need a oil change. No problem with synthetic oil use it in my 07 lowrider and I have 14,000 miles. The engine do get hot in summer time. And dino oil will brake down. Your choice.
67k miles on my Twin Cam running HD dino. It still runs like new. Doesn't smoke or need oil added between changes. I can't complain, especially since I bought the oil for $1.99 a quart for several years.
I had always been told to wait till about 3K to switch to Synthetic.I did mine at the 5K service.
Agree with Ed, I was told to wait to put synthetic after 3 to 5k, you are still breaking in etc. Isn't the idea with synthetics that you don't need to change as often?
Yup even in the AMSOIL literrature I got in the mail reccomended waiting until 5K until you use thier products. I plan on using dino Castrol 20-50W in the motor and Redline Shockproof in the tranny.
