Default Thunderheader too quiet

Man, it seems like lately every thread is a zombie that's been resurrected. We need some new content so I thought I'd contribute...

I've been running a Thunderheader for the last 3 years or so, and I love it. I like the way it looks and performance wise, my bike is just a stage 1 so whatever. The problem is they are just too quiet. I ran uncorked or off-road baffles on V&H pipes on every other bike I've owned so I'm used to it being LOUD! I read about people complaining that Thunderheaders are too loud and I just don't get it. Anyhow, this winter I am planning to install CR-570II cams and am thinking about a new pipe. I want to keep that Thunderheader 2-1 look but wouldn't mind if they were a bit shorter. Any experience based recommendations?

I think you’re probably the only guy to ever claim the thunder headed is too quiet

haven’t heard one recently to really compare side to side with my Bassani road rage but I feel like now that the packing material in my bassani has burnt out after the 15k miles or so it’s approaching obnoxious volume at high RPM and heavy throttle. Also my switch to a carbon helmet has made the exhaust seem a little louder from the riding perspective. But generally speaking a shorter pipe will be louder, especially to the rider and the thunder headers are a little bit longer than most other 2-1’s.

On a stock motor, perhaps the Thunderheader is quiet. Depending on the cam, it can be much louder. I replaced the Thunderheader on my 1989 ElectraGlide after I put in a cam. It was too loud for a 500+ mile ride.

Well, to be fair I have never worn a helmet, but I started wearing a full face when I got this Dyna and the Thunderheader so that could have something to do with my perception. Also, like @Goose_NC mentioned, the Thunderheader is a lot longer than any V&H I had. I swear though that when the wife and I start the bikes her '22 114 with V&H slip-on's is louder than my Dyna.

I took a Thunderheader off my 08 FXDSE because it looked like crap. I went with stock headpipes, V&H muffler bodies, slash cut tips with DK Customs thunder torque inserts. I can **** off the Pope in under 5 seconds with the volume and it screams in all 6 gears. At highway speeds it sounds like a nice deep hum I just wouldn't want to be behind it.

I had a Thunderheader on my 05 and it wasn't loud unless I was gear jammin and then it lived up to it's name in spades.
I recently found one for my Evo which I plan on installing in the fall.

The only reason you think the Thunderheader is to quiet is because you have lost most of your hearing running that pipe for the last 3 years, lol.
