Yea that 's wahy I just let it go and let em think what they want, I like the bare bones look of the Dyna that's why I bought one, same motor as a bagger - just less heft on the bike - and albeit less comfort and creature features than a bagger. But I love my Dyna anyway - it's all the motorcycle I will ever need.
Alot of people ask me if my bob is a night train. The other day a guy on a sporty asked me if it was a fat boy. Honestly, I think alot of people have no idea of how to distinguish between models. Probably the same people that never check their oil or tire pressure.
You probably just got the "Oh" because he was allready wrong on guessing what bike it was and didn't want to get any deeper into a subject he knew nothing about.
RUB is the only thing I can say. If a Harley owner can not tell what family of bike it is he/she is a RUB. If a bagger ask that question again tell him he has a nice Gold Wing that should spark a fire. I have nothing against baggers would like to have a Street Glide down the road along with my Dyna.
People ask me if my 05 FXDCI is a Sportster fairly frequently.of course, the previous generation bikes did look a bit more like Sportsters with the39mm forks and the headlight brow.No big deal to me. I'm not sure whey anybody would find that offensive. My own opinion is that most people, HD riders included, have a very hard time telling all of the different bikes apart. They just don't know what to look for.
Who cares what other people think...... I could see a bike that is not my cup of tea, but still appreciate it for what it is, and respect the guy who owns ot, if only for "doing his own thing". Cookie Cutter bikes are just that. Who wants their bike to look exactly like someone elses anyway?
Some numptys thinkmy Street Bob's aSportster, but the ladies know its something special when the 96 big twinthunders by. I also ride a Suzuki Bandit only Powerangers notice that.
I wouldn't mind a bagger someday, hell if I could afford two I'ld have one as my second bike now.
I almost bought an Electraglide Standard sometimes I wish I did.If you do the math the Electraglide Standard is the best deal HD has going.Embarrasingly I let my wife talk me out of it, on the practical side I don't tour, and well like she said "Don't only old people ride those?" and the classic"Electraglide sounds like the name of an electric wheelchair or one of theose electric scooter things ." Still for around 3K more than I paid for my Bob I could have had a much more comfortable bike with a fairing and real saddle bags.
