I've had me Fatboy for almost 20 years now and even with the Progressive shocks it wasn't much to write home about.. Stock OEM's we're to soft, good for one person but not 2 up and the Progressive we're too far the other way, Rigid..
in december of 2022 I bought a 2013 FXDBP. I put a Progressive spring kit in the front and the OEM Emulsion shocks in the rear that I bought used coupled with a Mustang seat 2 up and brought the forward controls in 1".. I can ride that bike all day and not get sore.. Did 1300 miles in 4 days to Maine and felt like a day trip.. I guess the key is making the bike fit you not the other way around.. I don't do trips on the Fatboy anymore..

IMO having no experience and going on word of mouth from friends on a new softail, I think I would rate the ride quality of the bikes in decending order as New softail > Dyna > old softail.
That said I've got a fair bit of riding in on my dyna and on a few different shock setups and I think with a 12" shock a dyna's ride is fair. but to be really good you need the increased travel from 13" rear shocks and do something to the front end.
Progressive shocks for softails suck.. Stock HD is much better but you'll likely have to adjust the preload. They are set up pretty good got a 180lb rider. The good replacements used to be Worx and Ohlin.. Don't know about any others.
Going to a dyna. 13 inches are a minimum. While the only ones I've used are stock DX and Worx (good), I'd expect Ohlin and russ wernimont shocks to be really good.
I just came in from the garage after installing the new seat.
No instructions but fairly easy to figure out.
As with most things aftermarket, I had to tweak a couple things but nothing major.
I probably wont ride it until tomorrow to see if it helps.
Based on the one I had on my TC, it should work fine.
