I think you're probably right about a generic dislike of aftermarket wires vs. SE wires in particular.

"It was a 124" crate engine that put out 135HP and 151TQ." Woohoo! That sounds like fun!
You are correct,.. They use a pickup just like on a timing light to get their RPM reading while dynoing..

I replaced my worn out wires a few months ago on my 09 Ultra, the connecters in the boots were getting pretty weak.
The DK wires were a bit too long, so I looped them at the coil. See pic.
When these are installed onto the spark plug, there is satisfying click, unlike the worn out OEM wires.
If I had it to do over again, I would get the Universal Kit so the wires could be trimmed to the exact length of the OEM wires.
Or, you could just go to the dealer and get an OEM set.

I had Magnecor make this set for me a couple of years ago when I changed coils, there was a set of SE 10mm on there when I bought the bike and they did not fit very well with the new coils.

There were routing issues with the SE wires as well so one had a pretty good chaffe in it. It's a bit hard to see in the photo but I replaced the washer on the top engine mount with one I made that acts as a standoff, it extends out from the head and has a hole drilled in it for a push mount ty-wrap.

This gives me the clearance I need so that nothing touches the wires when the motor is vibrating, rubber mount after all.

Question Plug wires

Well, being the curious type I found more info than I'll ever need about plug wires.
You can read for yourself at the following links>

FWIW....

Just a reminder, the Twin Cams with Delphi EFI have the ION Sensing system for detecting and adjusting the ECM for spark knock.

Different resistance in plugs or plug wires can cause the ION Sensing to malfunction and either miss spark knock events or detect them where none exist.

On my Twin Cams I try to keep as close to OEM as I can, where plugs & plug wires are concerned.

I go with OEM wires with stock street Harleys. I'd consider whatever wires for any aftermarket performance coil the manufacturer suggests, but for stock I'm good with OEM. or Drag Specialties OEM.

I inspect my wires from time to time. My bike is 2021 so they ar3 fairly new at 10000 miles. At the next plug change I will install the SE plugs but will likely stick with stock wires. The better plugs imho last longer. I ran them in my 07 and they just lasted longer. They were double platinum IIRC . Not for performance. I was schooled by a rave mechanic long time ago.
