Hey Folks,
So, a friend of mine lost interest in a 1995 dyna that he picked up as a project last year. He gave it to me to fix and or sell. I have done quite a bit but I need your help.
The story is that it was a running a riding bike that was a bit rough around the edges when he bought it. He never rode it. It had certainly been tampered with in the electrical system and engine in the past but was running. It had drag bars on it and he decided to switch back to stock style bars and in doing so hit several gumption traps like bad wiring, stripped bolts etc and then it came to me. I replaced the throttle cables, clutch cable, got the tank plumbed, new switch gear soldered in, bars installed and fired up. Engine sounds great! I took it for a ride and discovered some things...
So, here are my problems:
I did a 3 hole oil change. Primary drive oil was milky but ok. Engine was dirty but ok. I pulled the plug to the transmission and water came out...followed by pink sludge. Bollocks.
There is a noticeable noise when I pull in the clutch lever when in neutral with the engine running. Metallic jangling. Goes away when I release the lever.
When in gear and releasing the clutch lever, its very grabby and inconsistent. Like the clutch is contaminated and it makes that jangling noise...
The brake light is always on.
The neutral light indicator does not illuminate
The right side blinker indicator does not illuminate
Any suggestions or advice would be great.
Whaddya think I should do next?
Thanks, Andy
blinker is likely the wire came out of plug under seat. Or busted cut somewhere north of the switch or solenoid. Brake lamp always on is likely the switch stuck or wire nest issue. Start at front brake lever switch as you say you redid the switches. Continuity tester is your friend as is a test light. Nutral lamp same thing. Start at led/bulb and work back.
Just an FYI for when you get her back together, Dyna's of that vintage will NOT go into neutral from 2nd gear. You can only go to neutral from 1st, factory setup. Hopefully this will save some head scratching later down the road, good luck.
