My D427 Dunlop’s also started wearing down in the center. I lowered the air pressure to the same as the front (36) and that made all the difference. I got 12,000 on the D427’s. Mostly two up.

I consider the recommended tire pressures stamped on the frame or in the owners manual as a starting point that might need to be adjusted based on conditions such as load. (1 up or 2 up luggage, etc). So I might raise or lower the pressures as much as 4 or 5 psi. But I never exceed the max pressure stamped on the tire.

The stock Dunlop tires are crap, never lasted on my new bikes. I ran MC 2s on my wide glide and had great luck. I found that Metzler cupped at 10K. On my touring bikes I ran MC2s and once again had good luck. I am on my first pair of MC3s on my 20 RG and not real happy with performance. I have a 09 FXD and I installed Michelin Anakee tires. I got tired of slipping around on gravel and dirt and so far I am very happy. My next set on my touring bike will be American Elite by Dunlop. They have been getting rave reviews.

Thanks for that information. I also heard good reviews on the American Elites, but like the Michelin Commanders neither one has the rear tire size my bike needs. 180/70B16. I can get the Dunlop Elite 4's in my size, but they are not the American Elite. It all gets confusing. Good reviews and bad reviews on the same tire and tires constantly changing. My Fat Bob just has a strange rear tire size. Most tire companies make only one tire in my size. Even Shinko.

The only tires that don't "slip/slide on gravel or dirt" are the tires on a Yamaha TW-200.
And even they can slip/slide if you push hard enough.
Nature of the beast.
Airing down can help with dirt/gravel. Or mousse...
