Dyna Wide Glide Steering Head Bearing
When your motor mount does go bad, or you want to improve it add an aftermarket motor mount like a vibratechnics predator mount and not have to worry about it.
Now I might be being paranoid or cynical here, but I feel what I feel. So when I rode away from the mechanics shop there was a slight vibration in the handlebars that definitely wasnt there when I rode it there. So is there a way I can check this out myself? I do have a friend that has a motorcycle jack to lift the bike up.
Thank you so much to everyone for the comments, its saved me a heap of coin, much appreciated.

This may help you out with checking the mounts...

There "might" be validity in upgrading the motor mounts, but yearly? Nope. This sounds like the kind of mechanic that will swap out your summer air for winter air in the tires. For a small fee. Find a new mechanic.
At 10,000 miles the Owners manual states "Lubricate and Adjust Steering Head Bearings".
Then again at 15,000 miles it states "Check front fork bearing adjustment".
At 20,000 miles it again states "Lubricant and Adjust steering head bearings".
Looking at my 2000 model Dyna FXDWG Service Manual it states Bearing Adjustment (Fall-away) then describes the procedure. It's pretty simple. YouTube videos show the Fall-away check.
If you jack the front wheel up off the ground, then slowly turn the handlebars left to right and feel no roughness, your bearings are probably okay.
I bought my 2000 model Dyna Wideglide two years ago with 22,000 miles on it. When I got it home, I performed the 25,000 mile service interval in order to bring maintenance up to date for my own peace of mind, including removal, inspection, lubrication, and adjustment of the steering head bearings. At 22,000 miles the bearings looked fine.
The Dyna front engine mount goes bad first. Check the tightness of the bolts, it's pretty easy to do so. At idle does the engine vibrate excessively? A bad front motor mount will show signs of "sagging".
Check the tightness of the Handlebar bolts and riser, and the handlebar controls and levers
Youtube is a ggod source for Harley-Davidson maintenance. Your motorcycle "Owners Manual" and "Official Service Manual " is even better.
All Harley's have some vibration at the handlebars. Ride it and enjoy it...
