Dyna Wide Glide Steering Head Bearing
I took it to a mechanic to have the fluids all changed and to give the bike a once over and safety check.
He says since it has low Kms it would have been sitting around for a fair while with the steering cocked to the left, and he says the bearing will have a flat spot and should be replaced. Im just wondering peoples thoughts on this?
He also suggests I replace the engine mounts and I should replace them every year. To do both these will set me back about $2000.
Im only suspect on these because there are such low kms/mileage on the bike. Feedback appreciated thanks.
Unless it's been outside and wet constantly, sitting isn't going to pit a head bearing.
Hi, I am new to the Harley and haven’t ridden in a long time. I have bought a 2017 Dyna Wide Glide with 3500kms on it. I have put 1000kms on it and absolutely love riding it.

First time I have ever heard of static weight causing a "flat spot" in a bearing.....
He wants to replace the head bearing just based on time and sitting around on the jiffy stand with the wheel cocked...

He says to change out the front & rear engine mounts just based on time. Then replace them once a year as preventative maintenance....

Based on what you've reported, it sure seems to me that he is taking advantage of your lack of Harley knowledge and is trying to make money off you...
Everybody has the right to an opinion, but unless you somehow misunderstood him, I wouldn't allow him to wash my motorcycle....
If I were you, I'd be looking for a new mechanic...
IMHO...You can feel when the head bearings have an issue (either adjustment or wear issues) and you will feel increased vibrations if the engine mounts need replacing and/or you can see the damage to the engine mounts...
Enjoy the bike, and find a new mechanic...!

Head bearings don't go flat..., motor mounts do deteriorate.., but only when oil spilled on them and then over time (be the front one under the oil filter dead center of the frame) - but your bike ain't got that many miles to have had that many oil changes
