While I was looking at some pictures of my back, I noticed this bracket on the left side of my rear fender. I have no idea what it is for, but from what I can tell, its stock as I have seen it on other Wide Glides online. Mine is a 2016 and any info on why this is here would be appreciated.
That bracket is for the folding license plate on the FXDWG. It may also be on other Dynas that have no taillight on the rear of the fender where the license plate would have been mounted. On the Wide Glide the rider should unfold the license plate when riding. When opened and unfolded there are two white LED's that illuminate the plate. The two wires that power it go forward and plug into the main harness under the seat. There is a +12 vdc and a ground.
The picture shows what the bracket looks like. Many people don't care for this setup because it's a pain and you can forget to open it so that the plate will show. I am leaving mine on since I'm doing a 100% OEM restoration on my FXDWG.
