So... loving my '07 SB, but had a weird thing happen to me this past weekend. My wife and I had just stopped to fill up and everything went fine... until I go to start it up... I turn the key and hit the run switch...now I may or may not have waited for the fuel pump light to go on, but I hit the starter, there was this bang sound, the engine didn't kick and then the fuel pump starts makes a weird whining sound. This was something that'd never happened before and I quickly hit the run switch to off.... well, after that scare, I waited a sec and did it all over again... and seemingly no probs...
Well, this morning it started fine but I noticed a hesitation when I hit the throttle... related? All I know is... weird things lately.... Anyone ever experience anything like this?
Hate to sound like a Harley dealer, but "they all do that." Sometimes. My 07 Super Glide has done it a couple of times. Always started on the second try. The fuel pump noise is just the pump scrambling to get the fuel system pressurized -- it's a normal noise and nothing to worry about if it goes away in a few seconds.
Cardboard -- whatis it with you and SERT? You don't "have a sert on" your bike. SERT is just a way of talking to the factory ECU. Nothing gets installed with SERT. It's just a dongle that you plug into your ECU data port and some software that runs on your computer. When you unplug the dongle the SERT is gone.
Also check your battery connections or see if your battery is low. I've heard that bang sound on my wifes sporty when the battery is low enough so that it won't turn over quick enough to catch. Like during the winter before I put the tender on. I don't hear the fuel pump because it's not EFI.
