I have a 2012 fxdc with a custom paint job on it and a ton of miles. Looking at a good deal on a 2016 street Bob with only 7500 miles. Only way I'd buy the new one is if I can put my my custom painted fenders and tank on the new bike. Then put the new tins on my old bike and sell it.
Will 2012 tins and tank fit on a 2016 street Bob frame?
They should but be sure to read up on if the connectors for the fuel pump are the same. Ran into fuel pump issues with swapping an 09 tank for an 07 on my Softail.
The gas tanks are two seperate part numbers because they are different. Streetbobs has dual gas caps. The Superglide has a center fill cap on the regular Superglide. The top plates may be the same if the dashes are the same.

Actually he's got an FXDC, Superglide Custom, which has the dual gas caps. Actually gas cap on one side and gas gauge on the other.

From what I'm reading it sounds like it should all swap over.
I own both a Street Bob and FXDC. That's good you're going to use the dash from the FXDC. The FXDC and Street Bob tanks are shaped differently from each other, and the dash's probably wouldn't swap without some work. The plugs should be the same because both bikes are canbus.
