Nope, no drilling. Watch how you cut the turn signal wires, though. Other than that, I did have my bike on a jack so that there was more tire clearance. I even put a Kuryakyn Raptor sissybar/backrest. And it looks really good.

Bobby, you don't have to remove the tire and I didn't see anything in the instructions that suggests that you do even though I've read replies elsewhere that said the instructions do say to remove the tire. If you can get a bike lift, it will make it easier but even that is not required. I have fairly large hands and fingers and was able to do this without anything but the jiffy stand. Basically you just remove the existing bolts, cut the wires after a little careful consideration for splicing them back together in the right spot, remove the old backplate from inside the fender, replace the backplate with the ones in the docking hardware kit, and follow the instructions to install the new docking hardware and relocation kit.

It took me several hours to get mine done - mostly because I was distracted a bit with work stuff and because one of my signal light wires had previously been spliced in what turned out to be a bad spot for this kit. If I had to do it again on a different dyna, I could easily do it in half the time.

Make sure when you splice the wires back together, that you secure them well in the fender clips so they won't come out and rub against the back tire.

I second 2007 FXDC, its a straight forward job. No lift required. Also, be careful and provide enough wire when splicing the turn signal wires for the relocation portion of the job. Another hint I read in a similiar thread on this was to disconnect wires from the tail light assembly, makes working with the wires in the splicing and reconnecting alot easier. After finishing the job, I went and relocated the turn signals to the fender in the Layback License Plate kit, much cleaner look IMHO.

I've noticed in a lot of threads where it says you need to cut the tail light wire and splice them back together... before you do that... follow the wire and see where it goes... My my '11 super glide... all I had to do was remove the back tail light.. there is a junction box back there and you can just unplug the tail light wires... this may not be true on older models... I only have experience with my bike... just heads up. You should be able to do everything without taking shocks or retire off or jacking the bike up... but would make it easier if you need more room to work.

*** well i basically just ended up saying the same thing @Mike64 said
