after install it uses a 94-01 style (cant remember exactly even though I just bought one) 6 11/16 inch wide FXR / sporty type rail insert.. and depending on the heigt of your rest you can get whatever size backrest pad you want.
Good luck.
I was wondering how much it would cost to put a detachable sissy bar on my street bob. Installation and all that. How hard is it to install it yourself? do you have to rewire or drill any holes?
In about a half hour I'm going to start my install, so I can tell you after that how much time and pain it takes. I posted a thread similar to yours yesterday and all my responders said they did it without a lift with no problems. Seems everyone that responded to yours did use a lift - so, who knows. I know I installed my rigids without a lift or a stand.
You DO need to be careful with what and how you do your wires. The signal light kit does call for you to cut the wires in order to pull the old "stalk" off and replace it with a new one that matches the docking hardware. However, it comes with the butt splices you will need to reconnect them and they include heat-shrinkable insulation as well. I had one of my wires come out of the retension clip a few months ago and get rubbed in two by the tire so I've already spliced one side one time.
I can tell you this much.... If you are comfortable turning a wrench at all and don't mind cutting and splicing the wires, it's worth it to do this yourself. The dealer will probably want at least 3 hours labor to do it for you.
Definitely did not need the bike on a lift but at least a stand would have been nice.
The only potential issue I have is that these sideplates are apparently a little narrower where the back of my sundowner seat is and it rubs the seat pretty hard putting the sissy bar on and off. Not sure if that will eventually rub a hole or not but I'll just have to try and be careful.

A friend of mine has a lowrider with a detachable sissy bar and he just got rid of his signal lights and installed an all in one LED tail light that has integrated turn signals. I wouldn't suggest that, though, because his turn signals are really hard to pick up on for some reason.
