I have a 2000 dyna and have finally got my hands on a pair of 13 spoke mags. Guy I was buying them from swore up and down they where off a 2000. When I got em I noticed the bearings werent sealed . Ive seen plenty of people put 2000 up wheels on 99 down bikes but not to many the other way around. Is there someway I can make it work.
You can indeed, you may need to change the bearings or the axle though and maybe the spacers but it is doable. If the new wheels and your old wheels are both 3/4 axles then it's gonna be easy but if going from sealed bearings to taper rollers, it is important to check for bearing end float using the correct procedure.
And a sealed bearing is good enough for years of trouble free riding, with no maintenance needed.
Just saying
The forum is full of war stories of those sealed ball bearings failing. A tapered roller bearing (Timken) will outlast the bike if it is properly maintained and hasn't been attacked by a pressure washer. Just saying.

You'll have to check the spacing and will need the outer spacer that goes through the seal but it's not too hard. Both run 3/4 inch axles. I run a timken wheel on a 2000 FXDX front end on a custom home built.. You'll want to check the disk spacing but I think it's the same on both wheels.. I uses GMA 4 piston calipers and did my own spacing.
I was about to deliver some good arguments for using sealed bearings, but since the OP seems to have lost interest in this thread already I will not bother.
