Could someone tell me where to find a back rest and luggage rack that will fit my 1996 Dyna Convertible? I am looking either new or used on this item. Any websites I could be looking at? I have done some searching but cannot seem to find the right one that will fit a 1996. Thanks in advance for the info. Again, it is much appreciated. HarleymanJeff
I had a similar problem finding a sissy bar for my 2005 Softail. There's a kagillion different ones to fit the 2007 and up Softails when HD widened the rear end but pretty slim picking for the previous narrower models. It took a lot of searching but I finally found one on ebay.
Thanks for the response. Do you think the hole spacing is the same between the mounts? I am getting 10.375 or 10 3/8 centerline between the two mounting adapters. I am thinking of making new adapters that would accept the wider back rest and luggage rack. I am a tool and die maker by trade so making things like that would be an interesting project. I know they are wider but if the same adapter centerline is there I could get creative. Thanks again for your response. There is a Swap Meet coming up in September at a motorcycle club I am going to check out. Than usually in January there is a very big one in Harrisburg that I am an hour away from.
If the mount spacing is the same and just wider I can make a newer one work. The Centerline distance on the dyna to the center of the slots across the fender works out to be 9 7/16 or 9.4375. I have a luggage rack and back rest from my 2018 Heritage and that Centerline distance comes out to 10.000. The problem with the one from Heritage is that it does not hold to the centerline between the adapters. It is a lot shorter. If I knew for sure the centerline distance of 10 3/8 inches between the adapters is the same on newer models I would just make up new mounting studs with them out about 9/32 of an inch on both sides. I am a tool maker by trade and could machine some up pretty quick. I just want to make sure the distance between the newer parts is the same as what I got on my Dyna. Do not mean to be boring you with this. I just need to measure a newer Dyna model or get the dimensions from a newer backrest/luggage rack. Thanks again!
