I don't see any indication of SE heads, nor compression releases, so I'm thinking a BB with mild cam.
We used to do a ton of 95" BB kits with SE204 cams and rejetted stock carbs, which would almost always make 90+/90+ with excellent street manners and economy.
thanks! That's actually very helpful. I am not looking to get any more power out of this engine, I just wanna know what I have! Lol. I'll figure out what the cam is once I open it up to do the chainers. Good to know it might be the stock carb, too. I know those were pretty good and pretty versatile. And thanks for the input about the heads. I wasn't told there was any head or valve work, just bigger cylinders and the cam. As I said, it seems to run really well, so I'm not looking to change anything. Just want to be able to service what I have.

One thing the previous owner did tell me was that it would pull pretty well off the line. I know the 255 was pretty popular for twin cams then, and I don't know much about the 204. I'll have to do some research.

Your going to hear a lot of opinions, but friends and I have done a few 95" builds and you can achieve 100HP with an extremely durable engine (As mentioned before, FORGED crank and timken bearing)
I sincerely believe "upgraded" carbs are an upsell, especially from independents. I've challenged dealers to dyno JUST the carb change and had NO takers...but you'll get LOTS of "butt dyno" opinions about how much better the bike can run. Face it; not many would spend hundreds of dollars and ADMIT it made no significant difference.. Also avoid like the plague any aftermarket CV trickery. Stock carb with factory available jets is ALL you need. There are NO miracle $20 parts...JMO
Beautiful looking bike, BTW
I'm perfectly happy if it's the stock carb. You know what they say about something if it ain't broke…

And thanks for the compliments. I'm really happy with the way. It looks too.

Just ride it.
95" was the common big bore. People did not start going bigger for a few years and then lots of arguing about it.

I bored mine. But if a dealer did it, I would think the jugs would say screaming eagle somewhere. Same for heads if they were replaced.

I might open just for the sake of finding out what is going on with timing chain shoes. In 2000 not sure they were going gear just yet. Not sure the problems were known.

Depending on miles you might want to do something with shoes this winter, or let it wait if miles are real low. Being over 20 years, taking top end off and replacing gaskets, rather than cutting push rods, might be better.

Never seen a air cleaner like that.

When it comes to price on old bikes, who knows. You got a running bike for $5kish.

I believe the SE255 cam came out in 2007 for the 96" engines. It was also very popular with the later 103" engines. I put a set of SE255 cams in my 2012 103" bagger.

I also believe the SE204 cams came out in 2006... I know the SE203 fell out of favor after the SE204 came out. While I have never run an SE204, I really like my SE203 cams

Several of the early SE Big Bore kits for the 88" engines, came with SE203 cams for both EFI & Carb. So when the bike was modified will influence what cams were used.

I had the SE203 cams in the BB kit for my 2003 EFI Heritage, that I installed in 10/2003. Still run them, albeit with a DynoJet enhanced tune, rather than the HD download tune. Bike runs excellent...

Enjoy the new bike...

I can help you with some of the research....

Per my 2003 HD Accessories catalog: There are a total of 10 HD "Stage" kits for the 88" Twin Cam engine.

There is one Stage I kit, obviously no new cams

There are nine other various "Stage" kits from Stage II, Stage III, Stage IV and Stroker kits

Four of those Kits use SE204 cams.

Two of those Kits use SE257 cams.

One of those Kits uses SE211 cams

Both Stroker Kits, bumping the 88" to 103", use the SE260 cams

i’ll pull the cover off and take a picture of the air cleaner next time I’m over at the bike. My hunch is it’s a standard high flow round air cleaner.

They used to replace whats behind the air cleaner for screaming and then give you a new ring for the air cleaner, for what I am familiar with.
