Lethal force can be used in Texas to protect property.
I apologize for making such a sweeping, general statement on such an important and often complex issue.
The person I was responding to is from out of country, and I was just trying to share that it's not the wild west here in the states. I was trying to relay that there are laws governing the use of lethal force, and people are held accountable to those laws.
I made a general statement, trying to avoid getting into specifics, as to not derail this thread.
I should have known better....

Given most bike thefts occur when people arent near their bike or aware its being stolen, any reply about using guns is pretty irrelevant
True! Early 2000s I was at the Boothill Saloon in Daytona. I was talking to this fellow that seemed to be a nice fellow. We both had beers in our hands just chatting, when we observed a fellow parking his bike in front of the bar, and that fellow went inside. This fellow I was talking to said "time to go to work" and he got on the bike that was just parked and rode off into the traffic. I had the "pleasure" of telling the fellow in the bar that his bike was just taken. Apparently he did not lock the ignition. So the cops asked me what he looked like, and I pointed to about 10 folks that looked like the guy I was talking to. Found out that the cameras then were not good at all. The fellow said he had insurance and had trailered down.
Since then, thats why I will simply lock my ignition when parking my bike. Even in my garage.

I think it was me who took this discussion a bit off topic, I apologize for that.
Just to clarify, also here in Sweden it is allowed to use a proportional amount of force or violence, to protect life and property. So in the case of a lethal threat deadly force can be justified and considered legal.
I think the big difference from the US is that here there really isn't any legal way to possess a firearm for the purpose of protection. Gun ownership is reserved for competition shooters and hunters, I myself is part of the latter group.
Illegal firearms are plentiful among gang members and various lunatics, so not all is well in the workers paradise
