Not sure why you are asking about the motor when all the stuff you want to replace is not motor related. If it runs fine leave it alone.

02 drivetrains and 09s are mostly different. Some parts like clutch guts, top end parts, cam covers are the same. Clutch cable will be different. You need one off an 09 bike.

If you post pic of what parts you need to replace, some here can help.

Steering bearings are the same..

This originally started as a thread to help me identify what motor I had because the VIN and motor numbers did not match and I was told that the engine was replaced. So I wanted to know as much about the replacement engine as I could find.

Now it has morphed into something a little different. I did not want to start a new thread and have to repost some info that was already here. I will probably still need help with the power plant and drivetrain at some near future time. While working mostly on cosmetics right now I still need to get the bike on the road to fully take advantage of it. I have not driven it but on a very very short test drive before I bought it.

To get it on the road I have to do the cosmetics that are required to drive it. And right now the steering head is the issue. I don't want to replace if I don't have to. I have the new bearings and races and am working on locating tools to remove the old races. I am not a welder so I can't run a bead around the races and let them fall out so I need the race removal tool. If I can't find a reasonably priced one the I'll have to cut one on my mini lathe. Same for the bearing installation tool. Trying to get my local bike repair shop to let me borrow the tools.

I still don't know the engine mix that I have. We belive a 09 lower build with upper parts from the original but then the Screaming Eagle badging SE110 on the heads came up for discussion. It was said that SE was not prior to 07 and yet there it is as plain as day on my 02 FXDWG3 CVO. So I will pull the cylinder cover off the head and see what I can find.

You have a parts bike engine. It was already said ride it. When it fails tear it down and figure it out. If you get some good riding out of it as is you got lucky.

Here here.

I pulled off a valve cover. Looks like 08 is stamped there. Here is a pic of under the valve covers. It is a clean engine. I was surprised on how clean it was.

If you enlarge the last photo on the cover you can see it has an 08 calendar stamp.

Yeah Max looks like a lot of moisture in that motor either that or breathers aren't working properly..

Water in that oil for sure. It could come from starting it to hear it run then shutting down. never runs long enough to cook off the moisture.

Remember back in the day when we first started driving our old points distributor Plymouths, especially the 225 slant 6.. We didn't know much about maintenance then but if you pulled the breather off the valve cover man there was always Brown goo, sort of like what comes out of the cam position sensors on the Evos.. LOL..

Come to think of it the posters Brown goo up in the rocker assemblies is definitely an indication of whoever owned it would start it in the garage or outside for a little bit thinking they're doing it good and then shutting it down.. like Max said not cooking the moisture out of the oil all the way..

Those are the old style, cast breather assemblies, #17650-02. They were replaced with the newer stamped style breathers, #17025-03A.

I didn't know any Twin Cam engines still used the cast breathers after 2004 or 2006......
