Got a question Guys.
I have a 2000 Dyna and wanted to change my Battery to Lithium. Is it compatible with an older charging system? Do I need to do anything to accommodate Lithium batteries?
LiFePO4 battery for 3 years now, pants are not on fire. Bike starts GREAT!
Comes with a special battery tender just for lithium. They are different than acid battery tenders.
Some people have had great luck with them and some have had a bad luck with them. My experience was bad on a 22 Heritage. I wouldn't run one again if you gave it to me.
Are you asking about a tender or are you asking if your bikes charging system is compatible?
Yes. The Lithium battery itself has all kinds of overload protection. The one I was considering does not clearly state it need s a tender but I get the feeling I would need one. Which I don't mind using a tender if it's required but is the Lithium battery still safe to be connected to the Bike? What is the charging system doing at that point when it's running?
LiFePO4 battery are protected internally with all kinds of electronic wizardry.
I've never used the tender even after not riding for two weeks on my Ultra, started right up.
My battery has a voltage read out right on the battery so you can see what's going on with it.
Attaching a tender does what it's supposed to do, maintain voltage. not rocket surgery.
