Been a bit. After the Dyna won the battle Vs the lowrider ST, time to turn the dyna into my better version of an ST. Step 1 completed today with FXRP bags and I got 5 hours on the bike to boot. Rode out west and bought/installed the bags in a parking lot and rode it home. The bike has been a really good friend so far this season and shell cross 14K miles in the next couple days
Fairing is on order and Ill post some info on it after I get it installed. Really hoping I end up being happy with the direction on it cause it was expensive.
Well, just a sneak peak cause I finished too late to get any decent pictures. Advan Black ST fairing.
Fit and finish - good, I didn't go over it with a magnifying glass but so far so good.
Install - easy, took me a couple hours with most of the time going to trying to figure out how to get the lowrider ST headlight mounted. Grommets on the windshield are a pain but otherwise, everything lined up well.
First impressions - I took it out for a short ride and no rattles which I am really happy about, I was ready for it to rattle like a summabitch but all good. Wind wise pretty much felt like it did on the ST.
I'll give it a couple days to put some miles on and take some better pictures and report back if folks are interested.
I would say after having it out in the light, finish is really good. Got to say, after 90 miles today, huge smile. We'll see how it stands the abuse I will give it daily but so far, love it.
With days getting shorter and living in an area with as many deer as people, added some lighting upgrades. They are wired into the high beam circuit for convenience.
I would have to say after a living in central New York dear were my primary concern, then it moved down to Long Island and now cagers are the real problem, not the wildlife...
Group photo day from a couple weeks ago. After I bolt checked all the ST fairing bolts and although nothing was hand tight loose, most needed attention. So, some more loctite and for the past week they seemed to have maintained their torque. Also, as with many others with this fairing, the windshield grommets disintegrated in the month of daily riding. Advanblack is supposed to send me some replacements but I rigged up my own solution for the time being which seems to maintain its tightness better than the Advanblack parts, we'll see how long that keeps up for. If ends yo being better, I'll post up what I did.
Still commuting her to work every day. It's getting cold but I have been refining the gear setup to get a little better bit by bit. We're up to 18K miles, pretty good from where I started the season at 6Kish and change. We'll keep going until the salt drives her to slumber. Then I need to send the shocks back to Legends for a freshen up and... maybe rebuild the forks. I've also bought some higher level maint stuff that just seems good to do on an almost 20 year old bike I plan to continue to pile miles on - fuel pump, starter... stuff that if it dies it will leave me on the side of the road.
Well **** - happened to me. I've probably put 300 miles on it since pulling out of hibernation and will admit, hadn't put a wrench on them since taking it back out. That hardware had been installed for at least 10K miles, I checked it maybe every couple of weeks all last season - always tight. But today, when I'm a mile from my house after 50 mile ride, heard and felt a couple clicks from the rear as I was getting ready to hang a right and the rear locked up. All in all, lucky it happened when and where it did, I was probably only doing 20-25MPH. I think I'm going to go to stock hardware and safety wire them. New wheel, from late model FXDL and pulley going to cost me about $1K from Harley unless any of you bros have some parts you want to sell me.
