I take the seat off, but mostly becuase it's filthy under there. If I'm washing the bike, might as well get it all clean. I don't put anything over the hole, though -- all those connections are waterproof. As long as you don't use high pressure water it doesn't know water from rain.
I never take the seat off, cover the air cleaner, or any of that stuff. Mustang recommends using carnuba wax on the seat to seal the seams, works great and never had a wet butt. I have been in some really good downpours and it handled that OK, so whats a little water once a month or so?
JMAN, I have the Mustang Super touring. Wife could not stay on the stock for more than an hr. Now 3 or more no problem for her I was ok on the stock seat but this is loads better.
