Default Club Style Switchback Throttle Cable Issue

Hey guys, definitely a Harley noob here. Well, motorcycle noob in general. Bought a 2012 Switchback last summer as my first bike after taking the MSF course and getting my license. I just installed Thrashin 6.5" pullback risers and high bend bars and the throttle cables are getting kinked when the bars are turned all the way to the right. They get kinked into a 90 degree angle in between the trees right where the cables straighten out and run along the frame. The throttle won't easily release when turned to the left and that's not something I want to encounter while riding. I was worried that they would be too short when turning all the way to the left but there's plenty of slack still. I can't figure out if I need to route the cables differently or if I need different length cables. When it was stock they clipped onto the nacelle that secures the headlight but I've removed that completely and put a Road Warrior fairing on it. Should I get longer cables and route them in front of the top tree and then back in between the top and bottom trees? Or are the stock cables too long, causing that 90 degree bend? I think the total rise of my new bar/riser setup is only like 2" higher than the stock setup, it mostly pushes the controls forward more since the bars aren't angled back.

For a test, try loosely putting a zip tie or the like around the top triple clamp and the cables right where that lug is next to the thick cable. Turn the bars and see if that helps.

My '07Street Bob has a cable clamp attached right about where that lug is.

Hope this helps,
Tom

That seemed to do the trick, it's not binding/sticking anymore with the cables just to the right of that bolt hole in the top clamp. Thanks Tom!

Looking at the nacelle I removed, that's the exact location that the throttle cables were secured to anyways.

However you secure the cables to the triple clamp, make sure they have room to move a bit. If you use a zip tye, put one around the triple clamp and another zip tye and tighten the one on the clamp. Then use the second one to go around the cables, just make a loop out of it.

You might look at the bolt hole and use a cable clamp if the hole is small enough to use a cable clamp.

Thanks! I'm going to fab a small metal bracket that will attach to the upper clamp using that bolt hole, and then have a small hole for a cable clamp.
