Congrats... By the words you used are you in the Military? I was just down there a couple of weeks ago watching my son graduate from Air Force Basic training.
Thanks for the compliment Airborne. I'm retired from the Army; did 22 years and decided that I'd been all that I could be (how's that for dating myself) and figured that I'd pop smoke in a great location. Not that it was much of a choice after they offered the Pentagon, Korea, Kuwait, or San Antonio. I might've been a dumbass tanker, but I wasn't that dumb.
Congratulations on your son's graduation from basic. I know that you're proud as all get out of him!
JL,
I bought my bike from Caliente H-D here in SA. They're the newest dealership and pretty good folks.
That being said, the only add-ons that I bought from Caliente were the sissybar, pad, and side plates. I used the National Cycle wind screen that I had on my Sporty and so far, it seems to be doing alright. I almost went with one of the H-D windshields, but after reading some of the buffeting comments in the forums and remembering how bad the buffeting was with a buddy's WG that had one of the H-D windshields, I decided to give the wind screen a try. The other things: the engine guard, the 360 degree highway peg kit, and the service manual, I bought from Zanotti Motors. Even with shipping, I saved about $80 over buying it from the dealership.
I agree 100% about the bike having everything I want. She looks great, sleek and aggressive; smooth with great handling; and she's a ride that can do anything you want.
I've got an 08 FXDC also, and it is my favorite ride to date. Just got back from road trip to Texas (work/fun), 650 miles (Colo Springs to El Paso) one-way. The Super Glide was awesome on the two-lanes, get above 70mph on the interstate and put her in 6th and stretch out the legs on the highway pegs, rumbled through some different mountain passes in Colorado and New Mexico. I think my favorite memory was the High-Five wave to a group of Harleys on 'Raton Pass', huge grin on my face while enjoying the graceful twistys.
Hope you get the drool off the camera soon, so you can post a picture!
