I second (or ninth??) all the others here. Keep it in 2nd a bit longer to make sure your not lugging the engine. I think teh shifting patterns in teh owners manual are a bit too low (on the upshift, I give everything at least an extra 5 miles an hour faster or more depending on my mood My Dyna vibrates at particulr RPM's too - like madden23 said, find that sweet spot and stay there.

30 in 3rd is only about 1900 rpm on an '07 or '08, a little too low for mine. 30 in 2nd is about 2500 rpm, certainly not over reving.
I agree with the others, shift from 2nd to 3rd at about 35. This will be approx 3000 rpm in 2nd and 2250 in 3rd.

Thank you all for your input. As always, it's appreciated.

Devils Haircut - Thanks for the advice about the line. I'm a crew chief up here, and this will be my 5th winter up here. Luckily I haven't been assigned to the line the whole time. I've been in A/R or in Phase... Shoveling when it's -70 at 2am will sure teach you a thing or two about mother nature, huh? I'm originally from NH, and thought being here would be a piece of cake...how wrong I was.

I guess I'll keep her in second until about 35. She doesn't seem to mind it...

I have a theory on why vibrations increase with changes in exhaust. I noticed this as well when I went from SEII slipons to V&H BSS. My guess is that the length of the exhaust with slipons helps absorb some of the vibration. The slipons are pretty beefy and are just kind of hanging off the back - they help counterbalance to some degree. the V&h are short and don't help as much. Maybe I'm way off here - but I notice a vibration increase at a certain rpm that was not there with my old setup, and unfortuantely it's below the point I want to shift.

I left Minot in spring of 2004, so maybe we ran into each other at one point or another. I was from Texas when they sent me there... I thought I was gonna die when I drove through the snow inMay!

For what it's worth..I don't shift to 4th until I hit 40+, then 4th gear to 50+, 5th gear I'll ride into 70+ but will cruise in 6th at 65+. I have noticed these bikes like some rpms before shifting or you lug. I agree, get a dealer to check it if you are concerned, good luck.

What year? The 06 had a surging problem because of the fuel injectors. They changed the 8 degree injectors to 25 degree injectors.

My Dyna has vibrated since I've had it. Rather an annoying buzz that numbs the fingers. Due mostly to the motor mount, although I've heard stories that a Stage One upgrade causes vibration. I had my motor mount changed and my ride was unbelievably smooth, but after 700 miles it came back.

I'm going to do some motor work and will have the crank and pistons balanced at that time.

It could be any of those reasons and surely the engine hates to lug (high gear and low speeds). Being my first Harley and coming from a V-max, it isn't hard, because the opposite happens to me, I tend to ride at high engine speeds in lower gears and I have put it in 6th gear twice, just to make sure it is still there... A couple of times though, while overtaking cars I reached the rev. limiter and I'm not happy with that, the bike just dies on you in the most critical moment and the only way is to change one up and it's over (plenty of torque to spare).
Getting back to this vibration issue, I'd dare to say that it can also be that you have the wrong map for your set-up and it's so easy to change, that it is worthwhile trying another. Exhaust systems affect the fuel ratio needs depending on the RPM in a BIG way..
Good luck

I think that I am going to invent a "VibroMeter" so this problem get solved.

Honestly, I think its the shift points as others stated. If you are concerned take it back to the stealer and have them diagnose it.

Good luck.
