Ok, Ok...Before the jokes start, I understand...It's a Harley...
Maybe someone out there can give me some advice about a solution to this issue. I recently installed a SE Stage 1 A/C, Fuelpak, and V&H StraightShot HS Slip-On's on my '08 FXDC. I love the way the bike rides, sounds, etc, but I've noticed it has a bit more vibration with this set-up. Not so bad I can't deal with it, just when I need to go a steady 30-40 mph, she wants to vibrate/lug like a motherf*$%er! I just passed HD's recommended 500 mile break-in period too. Could it be that I need to just keep her in second a bit longer now? It seems like at 30, in third, she's almost bucking, but at 30, in second, she seems to sound like I should be shifting to third. Is this something I need to get used to, or does it sound to you all like there may be an underlying problem? Maybe it's just that these changes were enough to change the powerband? I'm lost as to the solution.
If you have any HONEST help/advice, please let me know.
Yes, she still has that "dyna" idle vibration, which does smoothe out, but between 30-40 mph, and 2 & 3 gears, she vibrates more than I ever noticed when she was stock. The best description I can give between those speeds/gears, is that she vibrates/bucks/lugs depending on what gear/speed I'm in/going. Sorry I can't do better on that, but it's hard enough to try to tell someone in person, nevermind online ;-) Hopefully someone has/had this issue... Thanks for tryin' though.
What gear are you in? 2nd to 30+ 3rd to 40 + 4th to 50+ 5th to 60+ 6th 70 + The bike will not take kindly to being in the wrong gear if your in 3rd at 30 the bike won't like it, it's a stroker. The bikes actually like to be run pretty hard, find it's sweet spot and stay in it. Cheers.
Up in Minot, eh? Man I almost froze to death one night loading bombs for the start of Iraqi Freedom their. That flight line is no joke my friend. Good luck and enjoy your three month riding season; heh heh heh.
Sounds like you hit a gray area between gears. gonna have to decide, faster or slower. 3rd gear at 30 is gonna lug it a bit. Gonna have to drop down to 2nd and just run the rpms a little higher, it won't hurt anything.
Unfortunately, most Dynas just wanna lug in third at that speed. Mine is bone stock and does it, most I know of do it...I know that it's a Harley and all that, but Dynas do vibrate even with the rubber mounted engines, simply because the MoCo doesn't even bother counterbalancing the motor at all. IMHO, they would be doing a better service to all Dyna customers if they would perform just a rough balance of the motor after install....it would also prolong the life of the rubber mounts as well....oh well, gotta make money somehow.
Go with carltex - just drop to 2nd....no harm. Even at 500 miles, the break-in period is really not going to feel much different than the post 1K service.
And you run into the same thing at 50mph-run it up in fourth or shift to fifth and lug it (stay in fourth). Better to stay in 2nd at 30-35mph and then shift to third at 35-40mph. The engine will thank you.
I just installed the SE Stage 1 A/C, V&H FuelPack and V&H Big Shots Staggered on my '08 Lowrider and I noticed the same thing. The bike vibrates much more between 30-40 mph, and itlungeswhen cruising arounf 25-30mph. I think it's because the FuelPack and it's trade off, we traded smoothness for performance. If there is a fix though I sure would want to hear about it.
