I don't know if anybody else has noticed or suffered this problem, but it is a rather difficult issue.
I purchased my SE 07 mufflers for my FXDCin the Statesfrom a dealer and when I removed the original mufflers at some moment I thought I would not be able to remove them since they were so tight (yes I did leave the clamp totally lose).
When it came to fitting the new SE however they did not just fit, it was more like they just "fell in", no struggle, they just dropped in. I didn't like the idea a single bit, but I thought maybe the clamp and the slot on the muffler neck would be enough to tighten them.
Well, NO WAY. I managed to tighten them as much as I could, but still, they were lose after a few hundred miles. there is a .3 mm difference between the pipe OD and the muffler ID. My questions are two. 1).- Has anyone had the same problem and how they sorted it out 2).- If you used some kind of paste or shimming, what did you use?
Did you use new clamps ? The head pipe is tappered down a little but they should tighten up 65/70 Ft lbs Torque.. I've put them on a alot of bikes never a problem..
I of course purchased the new clamps and used them, but I had to modify them to a great extent since even when the center piece making a stop to how tight you could tighten, pressed against both sides of the bracket and still the pipe was lose. removed the center stop piece, removed part of it and then tightened so there would be no other part avoiding the muffler collar from tightening against the pipe. Then the whole piece became rather conical and only closed at the external edge of the collar. At that time and even before, it was clear that the muffler to pipe fit had to be suplemented with some material. Now I have put some exhaust paste (a mixture of a mild and a strong type bonding material) in the hope that it stops the leaks and that some time if I need to, it will be possible to remove without having to use a hammer and chisel....

Yea they slip on fairly easy, but think you got a bad pair. That just dosent sound right. I'm assuning there the stock head pipes.. I'd of sent them back for another pair..
Yes Trotter the headers are stock, but...the HDI type with the internal butterfly on the rear pipe. Still, I would have thought that they would keep the size for accessory equivalence.. Or at leat H-D would have a separate type of SE slipon for the International model.
Looks more like I got an out-of-spec set. Yesterday I decided to put some exhaust paste there; a mixture of hard and soft (weld and removable pastes in a 50/50 ratio) Hammer and chisel to remove them? hope not. I tried using shims to cover for the difference but I couldn't manage all on my own.
