Hi guys,
I recently bought an 02 FXD. It has a few scatches on the SE 2 pipes. I was looking to replace them at some point, but I could not find the same ones anywhere. I could not find a model # on them, but they have the"Not Legal For Street..blah, blah , blah" on them and sound awsome(All the ones in the cat. are street legal, which I assume, would not produce the same saound). Is it a viable option to find a place to re-chrome or should I just go with new pipes?
I am sorry to say that they don't make SE II slip ons any more. You may be able to find a dealer somewhere that still has some and they could ship them to you... but at this point that is probably a long shot. I love my SE II's and if you keep them, check out the Big City Thunder Baffles to replace the stock ones inside.
pipes or Slip Ons? If its slip ons buy replacement rush or cycle shack unless you can find a dealer with an old set (most are gone) follow ebay but you may get ones that are worse than yours
Depends on how cheap you can get them re-chromed for.
I went with Cycle Shacks when I first got my Super Glide and they sounded pretty good, much better than stock, but just a tad on the loud side. I replaced them with a set of the SE II's on the advice of a friend and I absolutely love the sound! Not obnoxiously loud but deep and conspicuous ...... they especially sound nice on WOT.
If it was me and I couldn't find another set, (They are out there though), I would have mine re chromed!
My .02
If you are really stuck on those slip-ons then just get them rechromed. Since they are not being manufactured any longer, the only option you will find is buying used ones (which probably have scratches on them and doesn't solve your problem). Alternately, you may want to simply try a new slip on by some other company. As mentioned earlier, Cycle Shack, Rush, V&H, S&S, etc...all make em'. I have cycle shacks myself and they are really loud. I like the sound of the Rush slip ons too...
