After struggling with 4 or 5 different bolt configurations and dealing with stripped allen head bolts I finally got the rear fender off. I also installed the new 11" shocks.

I also removed the rear tank mounts that were designed for a solid mounting tank. I will now weld in a couple mounting tabs for these tanks. This is just a mock up of how they will fit onto the frame.

There is a large gap between the two bottom mounts under the tanks. I am assuming there is some kind of spacer made to fit that gap? Is there a mounting tab that is supposed to be welded to the frame for the attaching the two lower tank mounts?
I order a flat side tank mounting kit, this should make mounting the tanks a whole lot easier. Last night I used some POR15 to seal the inside of the new tanks, I am hoping to primer the tanks in the next couple of days. I have started to look for a wide glide front end. I have to figure out the length of forks I will need, I want the bike to sit fairly low.
I have built many custom metric bikes but always wanted to build a HD custom......I don't have the cash flow to build a true custom at this time.....my plan for this project is to build a super clean bike....
To make this project a little harder, I am not sure exactly what kind of bike I have, I only choose to join the Dyna forum because I have a battery on the side and it had a narrow front end.....the bike frame is a custom built made in 1987, it already has a raked neck...as far as the rest of the parts....well I am not sure. I call these bikes "bitsa" a bit of this and a bit of that
Here is a pic of my second bike, don't bash me because its a Honda......I pride myself on knowing I built every aspect of the bike from the 240 rear tire setup to the bars.

No bashing from me.. That bike rocks! and I don't care what it is.. Very nice job!
Its been a couple months now since I got my HD winter project....I recently moved and have been unable to work on the bike until now. I went with a wide gluide front end, I decided on 7° trees and 6" over forks......I like the low look of the bike......I am having a hard time deciding on which tank to use, there are so many to choose from.

Great looking project bike and ambitious too!. What is the stock frame from? Dyna? What year? These are things that you need to know in order to get an engine that is a direct bolt-up. Keep the updates coming.
I can see where you're going with this and can't wait till you drop the motor and move forward. Good luck, and don't throw any parts across your work space. Oh wait. That's me!
I have started with my dyna project again.......today I mounted the oil tank which surprisingly went in without having to make new mounts. I covered it in tape so I would not scratch the chrome while mounting it. I found a basic wiring diagram today on the net, I am going to remove the old wiring and run some new stuff, keeping it all out of sight.
