Default Lower Fork cleaning

As I was washing the Bob yesterday, I notice the left lower fork was all "stained", I guess from brake dust since the right is fine. Anyone got any clues on how to clean in. It has a sh!tload of dark spots on it.

Thanks

Monkey,
Does it look like brake dust? What I use on my car's wheels that removes it is Meguiars Quick Clay Detailing System. It takes a little patince but it does remove the brake dust and other grime off of the wheels and doesn't harm the finish. Give it a try.

Bart

Monkey, I use the McGuires metal polish compound and that small polishing wheel for a drill. Really does a great job. You can also use the S100 spray cleaner and brush to remove the brake dust. That does a good job. The polishing wheel really works to polish the lower sliders.

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't of thought it was brake dust, but seeing the pads are on that side. I'll give it a go. I've been using the Britemax Easy Cut (http://www.britemax.com/easycut.html) which is great stuff. It takes off all the stains and rust spots (I'd highly recommend it) but not these dark splotches on the forks. I'll see if I can get anything to work.

Before I had my lowers powder coated black I sanded the clear off the lowers with wet sandpaper. Then I could polish them with mothers aluminum polish. Worked awsome, & really made the lowers look nice. I don't remember who did it first on here, but I basically used lots of water and began with 400 grit until I worked my way down to 2000 grit wet. The only downside (for some) is then you gotta polish them every now and then, but for me that was part of the fun.

I'll see if I can't find the thread

Angry_Monkey,
Do you have the factory clear coat on your lowers or are they chrome or powder coated? If it's the factory clear I'd be real careful about using a metal polishesunless you want to remove the coating all together. If they are powder coated with a gloss finish you can use a high quality paint polish like 3M Medium Cut rubbing compound followed by 3M Glaze polish and top it all off with a good wax'n. If they are chrome use 0000 brillo pad wet with liquid wax.
