so i basically have to buy this stuff to keep my bike happy? I cant afford to do all that stuff right now...
No, you can put your stock mufflers back on, if you don't have them still, you can have mine, just pay shipping
What I just said, was dumb..you already tried putting your stocks back on! You shouls get this checked out at your dealer if your plugs look wrong, you can still have my mufflers if you want...
yeah i am gonna make the dealer look at it, I'm just trying to figure out if they can actually do anything about it, or if they are gonna give me the "The 07's run lean" line and send me out the door. if the download will fix it then i dont mind doing the download
just wait till you see the pipes glowing cherry red at night lol.I was worried bout that but still running at 32k miles later still glowing and thats with a dwnload and se mufflers and ac.I dont worry bout it anymores I did upgrade to mobil 15w 20 synthetic oil for heat tho from hd dino oil
All H-D's run REALLY lean from the factory to pass EPA restrictions and the stock mufflers have to be at approx 80db to pass DOT restrictions. Changing your mufflers isn't going to chage anything in the factory efi mapping,it'll still be running lean, any muffler you put on will eventually change in color even the factory ones. I've installed a bunch of rush slip ons and havent had any tuning problems(popping, hesitating) if you just want some more noise I'd just use the rush and not fool with air cleaners or tuners.

Having been away from scooters for a few years and just now getting back in, I have read everything I can get my hands on about the heat issues and associated fixes. I've also talked to wrenches at four HD shops and two indies. What I decided to do is just go with the old model SEII pipes (I like the deep drum-beat sound and the older models are loud as f#ck),the Stage 1 download for more fuel in the gizmo, and synthetic oils. This should take the heat down just a tad and richen the bike up enough for my piece of mind. I'll find out tomorrow night when I pick it up and will report what I get.
I went this route because I don't need any more power, really. The 96 incher has plenty. I won't be doing any more mods (cams, etc.), and my bike currently cranks and runs just fine. Everyone I know personally who has purchased an aftermarket fuel optimizer has spent hundreds getting it dialed in ... I ain't got hundreds to play with. So, if the synthetic oils and Stage 1 doesn't richen the mixture enough I'll be putting on an oil cooler. But I'm betting it'll be fine for my needs.
