Hey guys.... I have an '07 Super Glide, and I got some new bars coming tomorrow. I'm changing the stock bars to the older dirt-track style bars, a little wider and less twist in the wrist than the half-*** buckhorns that are on there now. I've never changed handlebars on a bike before, and while I don't think it'll be hard to do I was wondering if anyone has any tips or reminders that might help? Anyone's experience would be greatly appreciated!
I changedto similar barsabout a month ago. No special tricks to follow, pretty easy change out. Just keep your switches and grips loose enough to adjust them to the right feel after you put the bars on. Same goes for the bars themselves.
I had my wife keep the front end steady for me while I centered the bars and rolled them to where I needed them to be for comfort. Then I adjusted my controls back and forth till I had a good level of clutch and throttle control.
Oh, and keep throw a towel on the tank to save yourself the headache of anything dinging the tank during the switchout.
Josh, I've got the same bike with the same problem and haven't figured out which bars to go with.
But yeah, looking for something where my wrists aren't turned out while riding. It is screwed up riding that way, I agree.
What bars you going with? I'll be doing it first snow this year, might be a while though, still t-shirt weather.
They're the bars that were on the older Dyna's, 2005 and earlier. If you've ever seen a Dyna Sport, with the black handlebars, they're the same thing only in chrome. I don't remember the PN but there's another guy on here who did the same thing, and he said he's very happy with them. Here's a link to his post: https://www.hdforums.com/m_2234581/m...tm.htm#2235566
Keep us posted on how it goes. I really want to swap out the stock bars on my street bob with some 14" apes, but running all those wires and cables scares the crap out of me.
Yeah, and good call on the tank wrap.... I dropped my right brake lever assembly at one point and it would have been nasty if I hadn't covered the tank!
