It looks as if there are three brass rivets that hold them within the pipes.
Also do I need to do that high performance air cleaner and that race tuner thing?

Hi Ed. Not sure were you are at but one of the mechanics at my local Salem, OR Harley shop took the baffles completly out of his stock pipe. You should buzz down there and take a listen if you near enouph.

All you do is drill out the rivets and cut out the baffle. Not hard.

It sounds loud, and different. Very distinct note. I am told he gets a lot of poping as the filter is being sucked in im sure. He did put on a supertuner and heavy breather.

I did take a hole saw to the plate in my stock exhaust. Sounds louder, better than stock, but sounds like **** compared to custom exhaust. You can add just about any slip on or modify your stock exhaust without a tuner so long as you are using the stock airflow. But your performance will suffer. Whatever you do, if you dont do the full stage one upgrade make sure to check your plugs often to see if they are turning white. If they are you have to stop riding and go with a stage one right away, or back to stock, or risk buying a new motor.

FYI I am shopping for V&H big shots, V&H fuelpak and bigsucker air cleaner now, just got outbid on ebay again on a decent set of pipes I will buy new if I cant find a deal in the month or two. I should have set it up correctly from the start but money is always the final factor.

I think this advise is pretty much what you are going to get from all, I am sure I will be corrected if I got something wrong.

Default Rush slip-ons

I have been thinking about swapping out my stock exhaust for the black Screamin Eagle ones, but after reading a few posts here it appears they sound exactly the same as the stock pipes. All I'm trying to accomplish here is changing the sound, so I think I'll be fine with slip-ons vs a full exhaust, and the Rush one looks like a fine alternative. The decision I'm faced with now is do I want the 1.75" baffles or 2.0"? Has anybody tried them both and want to offer some guidance?

Also, I'd like to put on the black exhaust shield from the HD parts dept - these pipes should be compatible with the exhaust shield, right?

Default Exhaust

Cobra has a set of slip ons at this time, saw them on JP Cycles web site, also V&H has a set of slip ons available next month, saw them on their web site.
