Dealer blowing smoke???
Anyway, went to the local dealer yesterday ( Northwest HD in Lacey) and was told that I also need to add a race tuner as Harley will not remap anything past an '06. Sounds like BS to me but I thought I would check here and get some more opinions.
Am thinking of going with the V&H straightshot slip-ons for now and maybe later on adding a better flowing air cleaner...maybe then I'll need a power commander but I would prefer to just have the dealer remap the stock magic box.

Bike runs fine with no remap. You will need to do a PC III
or SERT when you change the air cleaner to a high flow.
You do not need a remap for just slip-ons.
Oh, and welcome to the Dyna forum.[sm=welcomesign.gif]
I had the Screaming Eagle Stage 1 download done a couple weeks ago and with the SEII slip-ons and Mobil 1 V-Twin synthetic oil the bike is running noticeably cooler and noticeably snappier past 2500 rpm. I feel all the '08s are set up way too lean due to EPA regs and they all need the download, even if using the stock pipes.
If you're just going to install slip-ons and a hi-flow air cleaner, all you really need is the download. It works fine. If you want to play around with mapping or will do more engine work, then get one of the fuel controllers.
I posted this in an ealrier thread yesterday, I didn't get a reply but I did go back and question the dealer again. They say the A/C and race tuner will add more power and eliminate poping and backfire through the pipes. They have a salesmen there with the same set-up and his sounds very good
The same cannot be said of the folks I know who got PCIIIs or SERTs. Everyone I know personally who went this route (for significantly more money, btw) wound up spending even more money ona dyno tune to get the deceleration popping dialed all the way out and they also start a little harder than before. There are posts here from folks who experienced the same thing, so it's not a local phenomenon
Sometimes they go on and work perfectly, once set with factory suggestions. But often they don't, and they take some work to dial in.Like I said ... if you just want better pipes and an air cleaner for a better-breathing, harder-pulling, cooler-sounding (and cooler-running) bike, and you don't wanna tinker with it ... get the Stage 1 download done.
But if you're going to add other things like a hotter cam or maybe some top-end work, etc. go ahead and spring for a fuel optimizer and dyno tune. Or if you just like to tinker with your scooter (and it IS fun) get a PCIII or FuelPak or SERT.

Already running syntetic oil and don't really have problems with heat ( as long as I keep moving ).
