Default My latest project and my first poll

Here are a couple of pics of my latest projects. I've painted my fork sliders gloss black and moved the mounting bracket farther forward on my fender. Now from a strictly aesthetic point of view (obviously more practical with the fender) which do we like better
With http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...hoppics024.jpg

Without http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...hoppics022.jpg

And a close up of the fender http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...hoppics025.jpg

The pictures really don't do the fender justice the difference is too subtle so here's an older pic for contrast http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...shields001.jpg

Ed, I'm voting for without because it seems to finish the look you are tryin g to obtain overall for the bike, very lean and hot-rod style. The fender looks fine too, but like you said, aesthetically, I have to say without. Great job painting those slider! Wow! Can you tell me how you did that? Awesome, man!

Heres to one vote for the with--purely for practical purposes. No fender in the rain is HELL! Those stanchions look great painted (powdercoated??)black.

I say no fender it does fit the over-all style of the bike. But hey Ed, you're the one who has to (possibly) ride in the rain. Ditto on the rear fender supports. They look better black with no cover than with the covers(even black). It adds to the stripped down look.

Ahhh, Ed guess you can guess which I voted for (and besides, it's easy to re-mount, but kinda hard to carry with you! LOL). A third option I'd be interested in seeing, is a shortened front fender - like in your 'With' pic but not so farther down in the rear of the tire. Just a thought.

I say with if the fender was"bobbed" a bit (maybe 1/3 of the part behind the fork) to better match the short back fender. But then, I sorta preferred it without the fender and before the forks were painted. I think it had more of a raw appearance with silver forks and with the gaiters but no fender. For that matter, I think I'd like it with silver shocks, too. I like for the mechanical parts like the engine, forks, and shocks to stand out a little on a bobber like that. But what do I know? I just enjoy seeing all the TLCand creativity a guyputs intohis bike turn it into something unique and all his own.

Sure, Dremmel with a cut off wheel one of my all time favorite tools. And the Krylon semi flat black is a damn near perfect match

Great job painting those slider! Wow! Can you tell me how you did that?
I put the bike up on a lift, took the front wheel off, sanded the hell out of the sliders with 150 grit, cleaned them off with rubbing alchohol, and sprayed them with Rustoleum gloss black appliance epoxy which is kind of a bitch to work with. You only get about a 30min window to recoat if you miss that you need to wait a week.If you don't, it will pull the first coat.If I were doing it over I'd just use Krylon maybe with a clear coat.Epoxy is tough paint but I doubt it's worth the extra hassle.
