While we're on this subject, let me ask a question. I have an '05 FXDI (Base model Super Glide) and I really love it, however everytime I go to the dealer, I keep looking at the tanks on the Low Rider with the speedo, tach and fuel guage on them.
Anybody have any idea as to cost and work involved to switch tanks and guages? Since my bike is Vivid Black, I don't see where matching the paint would be a problem.

I did it on my 06 Bob but did not have to change the tank. With the tach, console,
wiring harness etc. it was around $500.00.
i have a 04 fxdi just want to change the tank consol too am not worried about tack but would like to have the rise and look of a dash anyone got any ideals?
This is a case where one should give careful consideration of what features you want on your machine, well before you plunk down that hard earned cash.
The MoCo makes many different flavors to appeal to different likes/dislikes. They sell more machines that way. C'mon now, you did not think they did it to give you a choice did you?
The big problem for us (the buyers) is that a compromise never has everything you want on it. I hear some of you saying buy the basic machine and then customize it to suit.
OK, but all those parts you are gonna spend more hard earned money on are not going to be cheap.
When the dealer includes an item on a particular model the mark up is there, but it is not as much as walking up to the parts counter and saying gimme that some time later on.
A lot of the things you see on other models (yes you have already bought your machine) are fitted at the factory on a specific model and will not fit other models.
Oh, they could be made to fit.....don't misunderstand me. But you better have a budget like Jay Leno and some of his pals to do it.
Gas tank subject.....The Low Rider has it's own tank. The FXDWG has it's own tank. The tank for the FXD is different yet.
To make yourself a Low Rider you need to buy:
a fuel tank
speedo
tachometer
the wiring that goes with those instruments
a fuel gage (and wiring)
gas cap
and the list goes on........
Oh, most of you are going to have the dealer install all this stuff, and at what cost will that be?
Of course if you are Jay L, then cost is the least of your worries so go for it!
But if you are like most of us, cost is foremost. As a practical matter, you should buy what you like in the beginning. Otherwise you spend all your good time looking at another's ride and doing all of that wishing......pg
Don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but the finish on the engines are different too. The Streetbob has the blacked out engine, Superglide has the gray powder coat, Wideglide chromed out.
Just got my Streetbob a couple of months ago and love it. I was looking for a Wideglide, but the price I got on the Streetbob couldn't be beat.
I have the 07 lowrider and I just love this bike. First I looked at street bob for the size and price. My boss has sportster custom and I had to pick him up for baltimore harley davidson dealer. I saw all that chrome. Then I wanted super glide custom.I like silver power coat and the chrome engine. But when we went back couple weeks later. My boss waslooking into a tach. It just start me thinking, tach on the tank that sounds good. But the engine was black power coat and chrome. I like my lowrider and I will be moving the mid foot control to forward foot control soon. And first thing I had to do was give it same soundsSE IIpipes.
It's simple really. The Dyna Wide Glide is the model that all the really cool, intelligent, chick magnet guys with larger packages ride. The others aren't.
