Default Explain the Differences in Dyna Models

Very new to Harley ownership. I am learning a lot here on the forum. But one thing I can't quite find an answer to. At least in one spot. What are the physical differences between the different Dyna models (FXD, FXDX, FXDWG, etc.). I know what they are called (Super Glide, SG Sport, Wide Glide, etc.) but what makes them different from each other.

Thanks in advance for tolerating my stupid question![sm=helpout.gif]

If you go HERE You can compare the different models on a one to one basis by clicking on "compare" after selectina a model first. It's much more acurate this way than trying to mention every difference.

That's the best source. Also, go to your local dealer. There's some excellent brochures on the sales floor that have more info and better pics.

Functionally, all the dynas are the same. The engine, trans, rear suspension are all the same. The FXDWG Wide Glide has a wider front end, 21" wheel, and more rake and trail than the others. It not only looks differant, it rides and handles differant.

Most of the differances are visual and cosmetic. For example, the Superglide has a speedometer attached to the handlebars, and the Wide Glide has it on a console on the tank. The Low Rider has a speedometer and a tachometer on a differant tank panel. Again, visual/cosmetic differances.

You just have to decide what looks best to you and what fits in your budget. I've decide to buy the Superglide base model. This way I have a blank canvas to do my own customizing, rather than let HD "customize" it for me.

Thanks TC!! I will check that out.

bobcowan: I just purchased a 2002 FXD. From what I have seen the Super Glide is considerably cheaper thatn the other models, but I couldn't see where that difference was. My '02 has had a lot of performance and appearance (CHROME!!) upgrades, but the selling price was still in that typical FDX range! Lucky for me the previous owner installed all the goodies that I like, so I'm thinking I did pretty good with the deal!

Thanks again for the replies!

Superglides rule!!!!![8D]

More Bang for the buck than any other H/D!!!!!!

I have built mine "my way", and SERIOUSLY, wouldn't do it any other way looking back now, 7 months now.....

I personally prefer the '05's to the '06's, but either is a good deal. Skip the chrome, and spend the dough on a seat, forward controls, a windscreen and some HIPO parts, like a gear down kit and pressure plate, air cleaner, mufflers, and a SERT of PC III.

Get the laced wheels if you can as well!!

Just my opinion oof the bike you purchased and the reasoning that I purchased mine. Its basicly a blank pallet it is ready to be 100% customized to your likings. I was set on purchasing a night train but when it came down to it I fit much better on the Dyna and like the appearance more. The one thing that is rough is I already sunk $4200 in to the bike and I got a whole lot more to do. The only thing that I overlooked was how much I like the wide glide front end and would like to get mine to look the same and thats gonna be big bucks.

I can definatly see what you mean by getting the base model and making it "your way" I had to go with the WG though, because it looked just like I wanted already, and I love that front end. I dont know if it is the rake ot heavy front end or what, but it rides like a caddy. When I really want tear it up....I climb on the 1200!

Thanks! I traded the Sporty. It was fun! Wish I could have kept both. But didn't have enough funds to do it!!

Default RE: Explain the Differences in Dyna Models

I just bought a FXDLI Low Rider. I am so glad I did. The Dyna series have been a dream since they were introduced. Yea I'm that old.

When I went back for my first chrome plate, the timing cover, I stole a catalog from the parts guy. Everything I have seen in the catalog that I want to put on my Dyna is already on the dang thing.

I'm not talking about the Live To Ride pieces that I've added. But everything that I have seen that I think is great is already on the thing.

Take some time to look in the show room. Now go look at the items in the accessory section or browse through the catalog. Chances are they have a model that is a good start towards where you want to go.

I knew what I wanted when I went in to the Dealer. But I sat on every ride they had in there. My Dad, he's 86, wanted me to get the Heritage Classic. I just didn't like all the buttons on the leather.

I changed the seat, added bags and sissy bar, (detachable), motor guard, grips, and have started to theme it with the Live to Ride covers.

What ever you do go with. Enjoy it to the fullest.

I know I didn't address the difference of the models. Thats why I say go to the dealer and look. Any one in there will tell you the differences.

Then you have to decide which dream to live.
