Hi all,
Ive just joined, as I'm seriously considering a new Street Bob.
I've been reading around about the gearbox recall, and even though a little worrying, I'm glad that HD are doing something to ensure its under control.
I've been speaking with my dealer and he says not to worry about the box, and that in fact the six speed cluster was available as an add-on with the last couple of years.
Does anyone know if this is the case??
Seems strange to me, if thats the case and only now that they are finding the issues.
thanks for any info you can give.
Martin.
Your dealer isn't being totally honest with you. Yes, there has been a 6-Speed available for a few years, but it's totally different from the new 6-Speed found on '06 Dynas. They are not even close to being the same tranny. As for the recall, that shouldn't be a concern to you because your bike will have either already had the work done, or it will have been manufactured with the correct parts installed. The recall only affects early '06 Dynas made between certain dates.
What should concern you? The required 15,000 inner primary bearing replacement. If you buy an '06 Dyna, you will be required to sign a paper agreeing to bring the bike into the dealership every 15,000 miles. At this time, HD will replace the inner primary bearing. The service is free and it's required for the life of the bike. HD may change this requirement in the future, but until then, the service is free and it's mandatory every 15,000 miles.
confirms what i was thinking about whether the box was new or not.
Seeing at the bike is such a class bike, and that i dont really want to wait another year, i am willing to live with the inner bearing replacement. Seems a reasonable way of dealing with a potential problem. I'm sure there are lots of vehichles out there with similar items hidden from the buyer.
And sorry if i've dragged up an issue that has already been dealt with.......although i've a feeling it will appear several more times.
I felt the same way as you, so I bought the 06. I have not heard anyone so far say anything bad about the tranny that has bought one. Its the best bike I ever rode to be honest. Ilove it. And I also agree that its a good way to deal with a POTENTIAL problem. And I honestly believe there will be a solution. Do you think HD is gonna release the 07 model with the same issue? I dont. Therefore they will have a fix. I am not losing any sleep over it that is for sure! The MoCo saw a potential problem and they are dealing with it in an open upfront way.

If you are new to the Harley scene, I can see your concern. However, thru the years I've had a number of recalls and all were handled quite well. It is entirely possible that the bike you get will need no changes at all. This in no way should keep you from enjoying your Harley.[sm=biker.gif]
