My Night Train that has the same fornt end as the Wide Glide, and I have that clunk over big bumps. I was told by the dealer that it is normal, but I think I'm goign to ask them to put in the SE oil and retorque that nut.
Well, I have a terrible clunk when I hit bumps. So far had it in three times. Last time I was told to call Harley Customer Service. Did that and I had a call from the dealer in 2 hours. The dealer got the parts a week later and called me. It goes in this week. I'll post and let you all know at the end of the week. If they fix it.
I have a 2005 WG and it does the same thing...I even had it do it by holding the front brake and I gave it gas and let out on the clutch a little. Sounds like the fork stem nut like some of the others have said. It does it also by hitting bumps. I will let them know on it's 1,000 checkup....
I just bought a 2005 Softail and I have a cluck with just over 600 miles. I called the dealer and they told me it was normal. After reading all of the posts I am going to insist that they fix this. I have an appointment for my 1000 mile check. Thank you for taking the time to contribute!! RIDE ON!!
I've had my bike back from getting this problem fixed and all is better. They torqued down the fork stem nut a bit more. If you look under the neck of the bike you will see a spacer with the nut securing it. If there is a space between the spacer and the bearings then that is your problem. Mine had that space and they fixed it. It now rides much better.
OK, couldn't take it any longer. It sounded like it was getting worse so I brought it down to the dealer and he torqued the nut to 110lbs. and now it's perfect. It feels a lot better.
