Default Road King v. Wide Glide

When I decided to buy a bike, I originally wanted a Wide Glide, but couldn’t find one in my price range and didn’t like the deal I was offered for an 04 at the local dealership, so I bought an 05 Road King. So far, the only thing I’m uncomfortable with is handling thru slow speed turns, etc. I just got a copy of the Ride Like a Pro DVD and plan to watch it several times as some here have recommended I do.
I’m wondering if I would have the same issues with a Wide Glide. I'm posting on theTouring forum to see what comes up there, too.

Probably would have encountered the same issue. Anything on 2 wheels is more stable at speed than it is when it is moving slow.

I agree...same deal. The baggers become a problem when you have a tour pack, especially when it is packed, and top heavy.

Try turning your head in the direction you want to go and keep your head up. The more you turn your head, the more you will go in that direction. Don't look staight ahead and keep you head up, not down atr the road. It works, trust me. This is something I learned when I took the Riders Edge Course. Also, keep your feet off the ground and work the clutch and throttle, as you probably know.

Any bike (and especially with the longer wheel base) is gonna be a problem on slow turns until you get used to it. Can't believe watching a DVD more than once is better than just going out and practicing. It's a knack getting used to whatever you ride at first - but practice and time in the saddle gives you the confidence and understanding of your and your bike's limits/quirks. Good luck!

But a big thing to consider, your hands don't get cold on a bagger

That's what gloves are for Not that I haven't thought of a bagger before, but it would be a second bike because I love my Wide Glide too much...

Can't be too comfortable on a motorcycle, I always say.

Look, lean, and roll (on the throttle even if only slightly). Try to get through the curve above 15 mph because under 15 is when you lose stability. And like the other poster says, get your feet up on the pegs. I see many guys go through intersections with their feet dangling down.
