Mine came set at the lowest setting from the dealer too. I wonder why they do that??

I set it to 3 after a few weeks and really noticed a positive difference. I'm thinking of bumping it up to 4 to try it out. I'm 225 lbs BTW.

5 all the way baby!

Feel that road under ya!

Maybe if I'm doing a long trip I'd drop it a notch or two first. Mine came in 1. What a difference cranking it down made.

5 probably works better with mid controls - keeps your knees from bouncing up into your chest. lol

Thanks set mine to three. The wrench works well. Now I just need to go out and ride her.

2007.
Mine arrived set on 1. It was really soft. When I put my wife on it bottomed out. I weigh 208. My wife weighs less. I put it on 2. Rode alright solo, still bottomed out 2-up. At 3 the ride was still good solo and no bottoming out 2-up except for extreme bumps that nothing would help. I moved it up to 4 and the wife complained about feeling every bump directly to her backside. I dropped it to 3 and left it there. That seems the best solution for now.

OK, I'm not home to look at the shocks. By clockwise/counterclockwise I am taking it that if you rotate the shock on the pipes sidefrom left to right you are tightening the shock (increasing preload) and rotating right to left it is lowering the preload (making it softer).

The shock on the shifter side would be the opposite.

Is that correct??

Cigarman, if you look underneath the shocks, it's pretty clear to see. But, no you turn both shocks in the same direction - clockwise - to increase preload and the other way to decrease it. There are 5 possible settings. 3 or 4 out of 5 seems to be the most popular.

I rode the bike on shock setting 3. It was a little stiff. I went back to 2. I only weigh 170 fully dressed. I will use 3 for two up.
