I do cover mine with a vinyl shower cap with the elastic around it when I give the bike a bath and I imagine that would work fine if you felt the need to cover it in case of setting out in the rain. Think I bought them cheap for about 3 for a dollar in a package.

I mean, is there a center hole in the ness a/c or not that fits the stock bolt? The football WILL go back on there. Is that true or not?
Yes and yes. Once you have the BS installed, you have a few choices on the 'finishing touches.' The air cleaner center hole will accept a few different applications. The stock football, a stock HD air cleaner insert, or (what I have) a 'star' backing plate.
I'm not a fan of the (large) bolt in the middle of the air cleaner. I much prefer the look of the (small)5-bolt cover with the open element.
Speaking of the open element... Haven't had a problem with it yet. I have been in the rain, but not a monsoon. I don't even cover the thing when I wash the bike. After each wash, I fire it up and take it down the street and back to 'shake' the water off before I take the chamis to it. No problems yet...
I'm not familiar with any "large bolt" in the center of the filter. There is a phillips head chrome screw supplied with the insert to mount the insert to the center of the filter. I personally, prefer the one screw approach rather than the 5 screw derby cover look. It's good to have options.

At least we're talking about the same mounting options. I wasn't trying to bash the single screw by calling it a large bolt. I even called mine 5 bolts...
I prefer to keep the center design in tact and don't mind the 'derby' cover look. Like you said, good to have options...
