I had my bike in for warranty work, ring gear and starterdrive teeth had broken, so dealer put anew clutch assembly in ( it all comes in one piece ) but now I find it very hard to get the bike into neutral , it wants to jump into 2nd or back to 1st , maybe takes 8 or 9 trys to find it . Just wondering if the clutch would have to be adjusted or cable adjusted
The easiest fix would be a cable adjustment. If there is more than a 1/4 inch of freeplay, cable adjustment is needed.
I have had my side tranny off a couple times. After reinstalling the clutch cable, I have noticed neutral being EXTREMELY hard to find until I got the cable adjustment correct.
Wow thats crazy. I just had the same thing done on my bikeactually had to go back 3 times and the first shop left things loose and it tore up more crap, and I also have to take it back as it is hard to find neutral.
could be something simple like way too much oil in primary or a clutch/clutch cable adjustment. Since the dealer last their hands in it for a warranty issue then let them adjust it correctly. ride safe.
I agree with the above fellas, either to muchoil in the primary (heard way too many stories about stealer techs doing this) or clutch cable adjustment.
Yep, just may be worth your while to pull the derby cover off, and check the primary oil. They may have just put too much oil in there.
If so, just drain out the excess......... Can make a world of difference.
I also concur with Doug, Jay and Senior. Check your oil level in the primary.
Provided that the clutch is / has been adjusted correctly ( You'll have to refer to the manual on this one as I dont remember the exact perameters in measurement terms andI dont have the manual in front of me at this very moment ) this (too much oil) could / might be the problem.
The wrong kind of oil could also cause this. In the Primary COOL is the name of the game. I use a good 5-W30 durablend like Castrol it keeps everything working perfectly and I have no problems finding neutral.
