I have mini ape hangers on my 97 Superglide and I love them. You can still lean with them into the turns and curves. I used to have them on my 99 Kawasaki also. I think it is all a matter of personal preference. As long as you don't mind extending your arms some and if you are a big guy like me (6'6" 350 lbs.) you won't even feel like you are reaching for the bars at all.

Merry Christmas and RIDE SAFE!!!

The main difference you will find from a dirt bike to a cruiser type is that on a dirt bike you
stand on the pegs and shift your balance forward and backward more.

On cruisers , especially with forward controls, you just sit like you are in an easy chair. And
with the Apes it is more difficult to move your body and balance forward over the bars.
But then this is not necessary if you are riding on the concrete slab.
As far as cornering etc. not a problem.

I had a dirt bike and a road bike in my garage up until I was about 55 years old.
Now at 60 years old I just have have a Street Bob with the mini apes and they are fine.
I am thinking about getting another dirt bike this summer because they are so much
fun to ride up in the mountain roads.

It is not big deal to change ther bars, and relatively inexpensive too.

At 5'4", I was very worried about the apes. When I got my bob, all my worries went away. I had to move them back a little ( my dealer had them too forward ) but I find myself very very comfortable with them. It did take a little getting used to though.

Later,
Chap

Mini apes will be one of the first changes to my '06 superglide. I'll have the dealer install them before I even pick it up. I've ridden thousands of mile with these bars, and I just can't do without them.

I was worried about that too. All I've ever rode before the bob was crotch rockets and cruisers with drag bars. I had no problems with it, though it did feel wierd at first hitting bad bumps at speed. There seems to be a little play but it was nothing disturbing or bad, just took a few bumps to get used to the feel.

It's understandable to be concerned about something that is different. I put mini-apes on my Springer and I like them better than the stock bars. My shoulders don't bother me as much and it is a more comfortable ride for me. I still lean, but to me, it seems to be a little more responsive. Maybe it's just me, but that's how they feel to me. Personally I like apes, they give it a little of that old school look and feel.

Yeah - match that up with a black denim street bob and you complete the picture.

I had the 10" Chubby mini-apes put on my 04 Low Rider and what a HUGH difference it made in the control over my scoot. I am 5"5" and had to reach for the bars and hands went to sleep but now with the pull back, my hands just rest on top of the grips. Have done a lot to my scoot but this was the best thing I did by far.

I had 16" apes on my old bike (an Indian) - and loved it. I've gotten more into the push-pull handlebar method of turning than leaning over the years - sort of like steering a boat. Anyway they are great - you'll love em'... as long as a bee doesn't fly into your arm pit!!
