2007fxdc, my bike is the same as yours its a 2007 FXDC superglide. Now any concerns with water moister in air intake by running yours open with out the original HD cover?

I like that look and have seen it with the skull logo cover and it looks tough.
Skully, I had the same questions when I was considering running it open. First, I don't plan on any lengthy rain riding. Typically, if I'm riding in the rain, it is because the weatherman is a useless A$$ and got it wrong and I got stuck and I'm heading for the nearest shelter anyway. I got enough rain-riding on my myrtle beach run this fall to know I don't care for it. Call me a puss or a RUB or whatever you want, but it ain't for me. With that said, several people told me they've run their open a/c's in the rain plenty with no ill effects. That's probably not as wise with a paper filter element though since the paper will expand and you will lose a lot of airflow at least temporarily. The K&N filters are more of a gauze material with an oil film on it and should do better in the rain. I do plan on covering the filter when I wash the bike however. Someone recommended using disposable shower caps with elastic bands for this and I'm going to look into that. But, worse case, I'm going to throw a ziploc bag with a rubber band around it when I go to wash.

If I ever do get stupid and plan a 6 hour ride to myrtle beach again under the threat of a 90% chance of rain the entire trip, I can always take my stock football cover and bolt it over the filter for temporary use.

Long story short, yes I do have some concern but it may be unfounded and I do have contingency plans in place. I think a sprinkle is no problem, a passing shower is no problem, a constant pouring rain - problem, but I'm quickly looking for a roof anyway.

Yep - it's only 1 bolt. Or you could carry some sort of homemade cover to throw on it while it's sitting out. It may be fine but I wouldn't just let mine sit out in the rain open like that. But, then I try to never let my bike sit out in the rain period. If you use a cover, if you are like me, devise some sort of scheme to remind yourself before you've found that you rode all the way home with the cover on. Not even sure the bike would let you do that anyway.

Next question:

i see you have Kuryakyn Deluxe Forward Controls which i also plan to put on. From what iam being told by many people if i use the Kuryakyn i do not have to remove inner and outter primary like you do with the HD controls?

That's correct. What's nice about that is, if you decide to go back to mids, or you sell your bike to someone that wants mids, you can put them back on with relative ease and without going back into the primary. The Kuryakyn kit comes with a chrome cover that installs easily over the old shifter spline and it comes with a bolt on, rubber coated locking clip to hide the shift linkage point from the mid shift setup behind the primary and out of the way and out of site. It also looks better on some bikes, IMO, because it has a little extra bling to it over the HD kit. Look for it on ebay - you can usually save about 100 bucks off of retail. Bought mine from Eastern Performance via ebay.

We had a brother on here have issues with his kit where he could not get his shift leverl to fit onto the Kuryakyn kit. He even ordered one from Kuryakyn and it would not fit either. That's the only case I've heard that however. But, I will say that mine wouldn't go on my forwards using the stock pinch bolt. I had to use a smaller bolt with a washer and nut to install the shift lever but it looks clean and I've had no issues with it in the year that I've been using them. The only other issue I had with the install was that, one of the bolts supplied, was the wrong thread type to fit. Can't remember the specifics of which part it went to or whether it was fine and I needed coarse thread or vice versa. But it was an easy fix with a run to the hardware store and I haven't heard anyone else complain of the same issue so it may have been an isolated incident like the guy with the shifter issue.

Man thanks for all the info. Iam planning alot of mods this winter and you already have some of the ones i am doing so just trying to get some ideas on issues and problems etc.

The relocation of the front turn signals did you use the HD kit or something else? I assume there is plenty of wire there to move them?

I want to get mine moved as i eventually next year sometime want to put some Apes on.

Good luck with your new FB I know you will enjoy. I would not do the SE Slip ons as they will not make much difference, i was going to put them on but was talked out of it and I am so glad I did not. There are a lot of great pipes out there depending on your budget. I did the stage 1 SE A/C and the V&H Big Rads and I am very happy. I will wait till 1k to Dyno.

Where did you get the Super Glide trim piece for the cover? I can't find it on Harleys web site.

Steve, here are pix of the Stage 1 items on my bike - priced above. Not included in pricing is the $25 HD Chrome Flames a/c insert I bolted onto the outside of the Big Sucker.

Not sure what happened but when I pulled the bike out of the shop, all the chrome got condensation so that's why it looks like it does in a couple of the pix.

Rich, I assume you are talking about my battery cover with the "Super Glide" script on it? I don't think you can buy it from the P&A catalog but I would assume there is some way to get your hands on one since it is a Harley stock part. The Super Glide script battery cover is standard on the custom (FXDC). That's where I got it from - it was there when I bought it. I've seen similar ones in catalogs that either just have a chrome band or the words, Harley Davidson on it instead of Super Glide.
