Okay, the old guy is doing something dumb I know but here's the problem:
I changed the bars on my 07 FXDC and had no problem pulling the left grip off. Before installing it on my new bars I put some hairspray in the grip (old MX trick). The grip slipped on just fine but it has been 3 days and it is still spinning (loose) on the bar.
Not so fast...I tried using JB Weld and my new Kuryakyn left grip STILL didn't hold.
What finally worked for me was dumping the entire contents of a small tube of super glue (the kind that contains cyanoacrylate) into the grip to coat all the area of the inside of the grip, then just before putting it on, I sprayed the bar itself with hairspray.
Sucker set in seconds and hasn't moved since.
Even HD told me that the glue Kury sells with the grip doesn't work very well. Go figure....
I treated mine like I would have if i was replacing a grip on a golf club
covered the contact area on the bar with thin 2 way tape (double sided carpet tape or golf grip tape will work)
spray or pour on solvent made for gripping golf clubs on both parts - hairspray will probably work too.
slide the grip on quickly - not much time before it dries.
Pull the grip back off, hit it with some contact cleaner or some degreaser and then get some Renthal grip glue from a local mx shop.Put a bead of gluearound the opening of the grip and since the glue is around the opening when you put it on it will smear down the grip as it slides on. Let it sit for 8 hrs.
