Why does everyone try to buy the cheapest lift possible for thier bike? If you look at a lift and have to come here and ask if it is OK to put your bike on it, then you have doubts about it in the first place. Why buy it? I think I would rather buy something a little over priced and overkill to put my 20-30k bike on and not have to worry if its gonna fall over while I'm using it.

 

Spoken like a man who can afford to be over charged.For my last bike I bought Pit Bull race stands, they cost 4X what my sears red jack did and are about half as usefull.Don't get me wrong the Pit Bull stands are great for a sport bike but pretty much useless for anything else.The red jack will lift damn near anything......except my SV650..that I bought the race stands for.

 

Buy a good tool once and keep it a lifetime.

 

Why buy more than what is needed when you can ask your FRIENDS their opinion on a less exspensive model that someone may have already tried. I think it's safe to say that most of us in the Dyna forum aren't lifing $30,000 bikes.

 

Some of us are less fortunate than others....some are doing good to make the payment on the bike of their dreams and have to hold on to as much cash as they can. Especially this time of year. Anybody needing gift ideas for me....I would love to have a lift. I dont even care what color it is.

 

I bought a lift from harbor frieght that was about 50 bucks, it works great and I didn't have to spend that much. I like it and I was able to get the taillight that I wantedwith the left overs.

 

Agreed. I had been considering a lift and had seen the Sears lifts and they just looked chincy and I have read bad reviews of both the red and yellow. I was in my local Harley dealer and saw the Harley lift on their showroom floor

and bought it. It is very rugged, moves on steel rollers, and is very easily operated by one person. I just slip the Dyna adapters and the spacing of the lift arms and length are perfect. I have had my bike on the lift for the last month. I have changed fluids, changed shocks, and added Boss saddlebags. It's a pleasure and I am very confident working around it. I bought a few sets of Hog ties to steady it. I like that I can move it around the floor too.

Not cheap, but good tools aren't.

I bought a suitable lift that happened to be on sale. But, it also happened to be one that was currently being discussed as a piece of crap with no evidence to back it up. However, I never once asked anyone elses opinion on whether or not I should put my bike on it. If you use the locking mechanism and strap it down properly and don't run off leaving it on the lift for days on end, there's no need to worry about it. A 1500 lb lift should lift a 650 lb bike just fine. If the weight ratio was the other way around, I wouldn't bother to ask because I wouldn't be fool enough to buy it.

I think the thread that has apparently set you off was just basically asking if anyone knew anything about the particular lift before he made the purchase. Nothing wrong with a little due diligence.

 

I thought thats what this forum and other forums were about. Getting advice, opinions, ideas, ect... before making a decision. Whats the difference in asking an opinion about a jack and asking someones opinion if you should chrome plate or powder coat your fork sliders ? Also just because a jack is inexpensive doesnt make it a piece of crap. I dont care if its red with purple and green poka-dots and $40...if someone has gotten good use out of it and its functional...whats wrong with considering it for purchase ? Justbecause you pay high dollar for something, doesnt make it worth it.

 

two words.... table lift. if you do alot of work on your bike your self its well worth the 500 dollars. me and my old man split the cost and its paid for itself ten fold. it will lift a full dresser no problem, and you rarely have to worry about your pride and joy falling off it.
