Quick Intake Leak Question...
I'm doing a little troubleshooting on some surging/idling/missing problems I've recently developed on my 06 Dyna. Before I remove my DFO, I thought I'd check for intake leaks. If I'm spraying WD-40 to check it while idling, do I spray it in the area where the injectors are, or, is it some other area I'm supposed to be spraying?
Thanks!

I first spray near the seam where the manifold bolts to the cylinder head, then I spray around the seam where the EFI bolts to the manifold (if it can really be called a manifold? I dunno), then around the exhaust where it bolts to the heads.
But YMMV.
But YMMV.
they all work about the same. just be careful when using carb cleaner (especially gumout jet spray) and the straw. I got a really clean eyeball once when it hit a screw pocket[&:]
Whiff, I had a similar problem on my 06 SB. It was not severe enough to give an engine code. It turned out to be a broken wire to the front injector. In my case the wire harness was taut with little give and a plastic zip tie a little too tight. The engine vibes broke the wire inside the insulation at the zip tie. It was repaired and the bike runs like new with 28 K on the speedo.

Could also be the fuel line off the fuel pump inside the tank. These lines sometimes get pinhole size holes in them and surging is the symptom. To determine if this is the problem fill the tank up to the brim and ride. If there is no surging until the tank is at a ceratin level this could be your problem.
I'll keep that in mind Anubisss. While this topic is opening up for discussion, perhaps I should spell out the problems for the record:
[ul][*]I recently enriched the bike a little more with the DFO. This after a year or so of not touching the prior settings I had.[*]Shortly after, the idle got funny at startup, almost dying somtimes. It would eventually correct itself.[*]However, sometimes the idle would get super high coming to a stop. Almost as if the throttle was stuck.[*]Sometimes, the idle would get super low coming to a stop and the bike's presence became really, really, soft/weak sounding.[*]The engine is fighting the throttle sometimes with surging and a few misses.[*]In general, these symptoms have become the norm the past few days as opposed to infrequent events a week or two prior.[*]No codes when I check for them and no engine light.[/ul]
I'm thinking DFO problems and will have that affirmed or elminated tomorrow when I remove it. If the DFO ends up being the culprit, I'm upgrading to the SERT (please, let it be God!!). If not, I'll do the fuel tank check Anubisss mentioned and figure out a way to check for injector wire issues. The latter seems a bit past my ability curve.

Just a thought............... May be your heat management system kicking in. Check your engine temp sensor for good connection/condition. May be off the wall, but anything goes with intermittents
