Has anyone changed a Wide Glide bobtail fender to a standard Dyna Glide fender? I want to do this and from the service manual and parts catalog it looks like the drop fender will fit the wide glide. The side braces look, from the illustrations, to be the same. Looks like I'd just need to change the tailight and license plate holder. But, I know my desire to do it might be clouding my judgement about whether the drop fender will fit or not. Anyone???
Can't say for sure, but it should be a straight forward swap. The WG has a different frame than the Superglide but I think that it is due to the difference iin the rake in the steering head. HD makes a bobbed fender for the Superglide line and Lowrider which is direct bolt in with the mounting kit, so there should be no problem with going the other way. Like you said, you'll need a new taillamp, maybe futz with the wiring a little, but the parts manual shows the same harness for all Dyna models.

What year is your WG?
Thanks for the reply, Gary.
Mine's an '04 DWGI. I agree that it appears from the illustrations in the parts and service manuals to be compatible. I'm mostly concerned with the tailend of the support braces. It appears that the turn signals on both models mount in the same place and fashion. I don't think there is a length difference in the support braces between the models. That is probably my biggest concern, whether the radius of the drop fender matches the length of the braces.
Thanks. You may want to check with a local HD dealership to make sure that the radius of the Dyna fender is the same as the WG. Some seats seem to be made for all Dyna models, some not. Look at the Mustang and Corbin sites, most of their seats are listed for the entire Dyna line including the WG, which would tell me that the fender radius is the same, except where it bobs on the WG and continues a downward turn on the other Dyna models.
Good luck with the project, let us know what you find out.
More on the quest to swap my DWGI bobtail rear fender out and replace it with the milwaukee Dyna Glide fender.
I received the HD primered fender from Zanotti Motors (damned excellent online parts source!)
Looks like the fender will fit fine. Simply need to change the frame side arm chrome covers from the WG part numbers to the standard Dyna part numbers.
Looks like the rear seat mounting hole lines up, but I'll have to mod the backrest side plates to accomodate the shorter side arm covers, but that doesn't look to be a real problem.
Sending the fender to paint on Saturday morning (should have it back after noon), and looks like it'll be a cinch.
Cheers!

Get any pictures of this yet? I'm taking delivery of my '06 Wide Glide in March, but I return to the middle east shortly thereafter, while I'm gone, I'd really like to get a new rear fender for mine, just curious as to what it looks like.
